I've been reminded that, back in December, I'd promised (teased, really) several times that I would do a blog entry about the car that Jen and I got to drive around Canberra. Then somewhere in all the busyness that followed, I completely forgot! So here's the scoop.
When we were house-sitting for our friend Nikki in Canberra, she graciously allowed us the use of the family's second car, which was very kind. However, this was no ordinary car! My curiosity was first piqued when Nikki emailed me way back when I was organizing the trip to say (and I quote): "You are welcome to use our spare car when you are here, although I should warn you it's very bright - an artist friend of mine painted it. I won't be offended if you decide to rent a car instead - it isn't everyone's cup of tea."
Hmmmm!
She also sent me a link to the artist's website, which had lots of pictures of the car on it. So go check it out!
So yes - that's what Jen and I drove all around Canberra. Now do you understand some of the comments we got? And here's the funny thing - ever since we returned to Melbourne, we've been much more conscious of other painted/decorated cars that are driving around. There's a company that rents "hippie vans" to backpackers, and they're all brightly painted. But every time we see one pass, Jen and I turn to each other and remark "not as cool as our car from Canberra!"
