I understand that it was a snow day for Toronto. As the Aussies would say - good on ya! Jen and I spend the day down at Torquay, an hour and a half away from Melbourne, playing with our boogie boards. We hope you all enjoyed your snow day.
We almost didn't make it to Torquay... we had to catch a train out of Southern Cross station at 9am, and once again Metlink was conspiring against us. We got to our local train station to discover that NO trains would be running today because they were doing track maintenance. So we hoofed it back out to Sydney Road and took the tram downtown, where we had to transfer to another tram to take us to Southern Cross. We made it onto the train to Geelong with 5 minutes to spare. Gods we hate Metlink sometimes!
The rest of the day was wonderful. From Geelong we took a local bus to Torquay, which is at the very beginning of the Great Ocean Road. Jen and I almost had a temper tantrum when we saw how teeny the waves were at the beach where the bus dropped us off. I mean, really - the waves we remembered from our trip down the Great Ocean Road were much larger! Turns out that the surf beach was literally around the corner - or in this case, around the headland - from where we spent the morning. So while the morning's waves were weeny, once we moved to the other beach in the afternoon, things were great. We're really getting the hang of boogie boarding, and had lots of fun flying over the waves.
When we finally got home this afternoon we discovered that we had acquired a new house mate. We now have a second Canadian teacher named Jen living in our house! She's from the Peterborough area and knows the lake that my cottage is on! She'll be here in Melbourne for the next six months or so.
And that's it! We're both exhausted from playing in the waves. There was a pretty wicked current that you couldn't feel until you tried walking (or swimming) against it. What a workout! So we're off to bed. Goodnight!
